Empowering change, one contribution at a time

Are you passionate about driving social impact through open-source technology?

Volunteer to become part of an exclusive Angel Mentor community at Code for GovTech's Dedicated Mentoring Program 2024. Code for GovTech is an ecosystem initiative to build an open-source community around Digital Public Goods (DPG) and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) – innovations that are shaping the technological revolution globally.

As part of the initiative, Angel Mentors guide contributors and lend their expertise to help shape a diverse range of GovTech projects for the Dedicated Mentoring Program (DMP) 2024, India's first annual mentoring & coding program focussed on building DPG & DPI. Under DMP, contributors work on open source projects listed by the DPG / DPI builder & adopter organizations for a period of 3 months. Each project has a dedicated mentor who supports the contributors throughout the program in achieving the defined outcome.

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

As part of the DMP 2023, C4GT mentors worked on the ABDM, anchored by the National Health Authority. A cornerstone of India's healthcare transformation, this project employs digital technologies to streamline health services, ensuring accessibility for citizens. The mentors contributed to mapping India’s Lab test names to LOINC standard and building a subscription management platform for Health Information Users (HIUs) that enhances ABDM's implementation, fostering a more inclusive healthcare system. Their efforts will directly improve millions of lives by facilitating easier access to medical services.

DIKSHA and Karmayogi

In collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, C4GT volunteers are driving impactful change in the education sector. They worked on the DIKSHA platform, a national digital infrastructure for school education, and Karmayogi, dedicated to national-level capacity building for civil services cadres. Within the DIKSHA project, C4GT mentors enabled automation of content generation in local languages using Bhashini and enhanced Sunbird ED App to discover tutors / mentors in a DSEP based network, contributing to a more accessible, inclusive, and innovative educational landscape.

Angel Mentor's Roles & Responsibilities

Mentor onboarding & project scoping

 1st - 31st March

During the onboarding phase, mentors will be expected to allocate 3-4 hours weekly per project to facilitate a smooth start to the program. This includes familiarizing themselves with the program goals, introduction to the project, meeting fellow mentors, and preparing for the mentorship journey. The mentors will collaborate closely with the mapped DPG / DPI builder & adopter organizations, who own the product, to define the projects that contributors will be working on.

Impactful projects

Evaluation & pre-coding period

 1st April - 25th May

During the pre-coding period, where the contributors apply to the listed projects, mentors will be expected to dedicate 2-3 hours per week for addressing contributors’ doubts and providing clarifications. Furthermore, mentors will need to invest 2-3 hours per candidate over a span of two months, during which they can conduct interviews, give assignments, etc., to assess the suitability of applicants.

Exclusive community

Project setup & coding period

1st June - 20th September

Following contributor selection, we commence with an inauguration event, followed by a 3-day DPG Bootcamp and project setup. This bootcamp prepares contributors for the subsequent 3-month coding period. The coding period starts post the bootcamp and mentors will be required to dedicate a minimum of 1-2 hours per project each week for engaging with the selected contributors via online / in-person connects throughout the coding period of 3 months.
